JULTRANE SEXTET DUPLEX, INDEPENDENT PROFESSIONAL JAZZ BAND

New jazz album “Creation”

Our first album « CREATION » is the first step of the jazz group Jultrane Sextet Duplex’s professional work.
It is the first milestone of a collective work using Julien Ndiaye’s personal compositions, rearranged for sextet by trombonist and composer Cyril Galamini.
In this first album there are two compositions of Julien’s idol John Coltrane: Moment’s Notice and Mr. Day.
What strikes you when you meet this saxophonist is the maturity and light which exude from his music, a “pure traditional jazz of today” (from radio broadcast Radio France Musique).

Julien ndiaye’s bio

Julien began playing the recorder at the age of 4, and then took up the alto saxophone at the age of 7.
From 2001 to 2003, Julien studied his first jazz notes with Daniel Cortichateau at the Embrun music school, where he discovered the great local big band of Robin Nicaise.
Back in Nice in 2004, young adolescent Julien studied jazz standards for 1 year with Philippe Allegrini.
In 2006, Julien enrolled at the music conservatory of Cannes with JC Di-Costanzo, who led him to his jazz sax qualification obtained in June 2013 with the unanimous congratulations of the jury and the medal of the city of Cannes.
At the same time, Julien, a longtime fan of John Coltrane, his spiritual master, actively continues his development at the music conservatory of Nice.
During this period, Julien developed his technique and his creativity under the leadership of Jean Marc Baccarini and started composing his own music for a forthcoming album.
Since then, Julien has been involved in numerous concerts and sessions with Pierre Marcus, Fred Perreard, Fred D’oelsnitz, Philippe Brassoud, Jean Marc Jafet, Baptiste Herbin, Stéphane Belmondo, Gabriel Pierre, Cyril Galamini, Renaud Gensane, Nicolas Folmer and many others.
Besides music, Julien is also an accomplished sportsman. He enjoys cycling, boxing and paragliding, which inspired his composition named “the little alpine paraglider”.

Birth of the band

Jultrane Sextet Duplex is a 6-piece jazz band created in 2018 from a joint project between saxophonist Julien Ndiaye and trombonist Cyril Galamini.

Julien Ndiaye : “It’s a long term project which symbolizes a turning point in our musical lives. Cyril and I have known each other for a very long time, and for the past 5 years, we had been seriously thinking about setting up a band with our own compositions. In 2022, we recorded our first EP, “CREATION” and we’re now ready for lots of new musical projects with this sextet composed of very talented musicians : on trumpet, we immediately thought of Renaud Gensane, a musician of great quality, and the magnificent touch of pianist Fred D’Oelsnitz. We then chose a prestigious rhythm section with Philippe Brassoud on double bass and Laurent Sarrien on drums.
“the band’s name, Jultrane, comes from the first 3 letters of my first name and “Trane” for trains (my passion since childhood) and my spiritual master John Coltrane.

Influences

Our musical references are clearly displayed and assumed: John Coltrane, Miles Davis, then Youssou N’Dour, Ismaël Lô, Wayne Shorter and Dexter Gordon.
